Cloud Backups
Cloud backups of computer systems ensure company information can be access in the event of a cyber attack or internal error.
Ensuring a smart Backups is the 8th Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) Essential 8 strategy to mitigate cyber security incidents. In the same vein as insurance, we hope you never need to access your backups, but in the event your systems get hacked or fail, then it is peace of mind the backups are there. For companies that have implemented all other ACSC Essential 8 strategies, the likelihood of needing to access backups is much lower.
In addition to regular backups of your systems data, we further offer limitless backups of your Windows 365 mailboxes and/or webmail, G-suite drive and your SharePoint. For businesses with sensitive data, we can further provide backups of your server to ensure all information is constantly secured.
Our Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) offers Cloud Backups for up to 3 months to ensure compliance with the ACSC Essential 8 recommendations. Further, we backup servers, mailboxes, cloud drives and SharePoint.
What is Cloud Backups?
A Cloud Backup assesses all data and files which have been changed since the previous backup and saves the new version of the files in a secure location online or offline. This ensures that in the case of a data breach, power failure or human error, all latest files are readily available and minimal work is lost. Unfortunately, there are many ways data can be lost or corrupted including; cyber attacks, power failures, operating system failures and computer hard drive failure.
The ACSC Essential 8 strategy recommends all backup files are stored for at least 3 months in a secure online or offline location that is not rewritable and non-erasable. Like many of the ACSC Essential 8 strategies, backing up files and data works differently for every company pending their needs and the level of security required. As such, some businesses may require regular server backups to increase their security levels.
In addition to the recommended file backups, it is also important to review backups of applications, drives and email. In the unfortunate event of an attack or system failure, data from all areas of the business can be compromised. This includes programs such as finance applications and payroll systems, as well as online data drives, emails and contacts.
A common ransomware tactic is to hold all business data ransom and refuse to release it until a hefty fee is paid. When ransomware is installed, the attacker will also have the power to wipe all the data clean from a business network if the ransom demands are not met. This is why backups across all areas of the business are important.
Automated Cloud Backups are included in our CSMS, ensuring companies are compliant with the ACSC Essential 8 recommendations.
Benefits of Cloud Backups
Secure Backups is the ACSC’s sole strategy to recover data and system availability. Whilst you hope to never have to access your backup files, it is good to know they are safe and secure in case you need them. Here are our top five reasons to implement Cloud Backups.
Five Reasons to Implement Cloud Backups

MINIMISE COMPANY DOWNTIME
Data loss can be detrimental to businesses and it contributes to the fact that it takes businesses 191 days on average to recover from a data breach. Proactive backups can ensure your company can continue to operate in the event of data loss or ransomware attack.

PROTECT THE LONGEVITY OF THE BUSINESS
For some businesses, the loss of data may be inconvenient, but it will not impact the overall business viability. However, for companies which have high utilisation of computer systems, programs, applications and produce sensitive and confidential work, losing all files could mean business closure. Backing up your data and your server means you can have immediate access to data if it is compromised and not be held to the hacker’s ransom demands.

PROTECT CRUCIAL COMMUNICATIONS
Cloud backups can recover work to ensure minimal time is lost. However, businesses that operate with high levels of emails should implement backups of email/webmail also. Often, there are key records of approvals and conversations that are needed to be kept by the company; thus, the protection of this data is important.

ENSURE EMPLOYEE PEACE OF MIND
Losing files and data is incredibly frustrating for employees. Whether this is from a cyber-attack or a Windows error (aka “blue screen of death”), it is never a positive experience. Backups ensure that there is minimal data loss and therefore, minimal rework required by employees.
Implementing a Cloud Backup Strategy
Automated Cloud Backups, which are kept for 3 months to align with the ACSC Essential 8 recommendations, are included in our CSMS solution. This ensures companies are compliant with the Government’s strategies to mitigate cybersecurity incidents.
Additionally, we provide daily backups and infinite storage of Microsoft 365 Mailbox, G-suite drives and SharePoint systems. This further includes backups of emails to ensure vital communications are not lost. For businesses with high levels of documentation and customer information, we recommend regular server backups to ensure that all files can be recovered in the unfortunate event of lost or damaged data.
Lastly, we undertake business application backups for crucial software including financial applications, payroll and record keeping. Find out more about these offerings and other features of our CSMS.
